New Stars Route

New Stars is the created-player campaign in Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters. You design a Japan Youth footballer, walk into the same locker room as Tsubasa Ozora, and play the World Youth arc from a teammate’s boots instead of as a spectator to his cutscenes. TAMSOFT built the route as a full story mode, not a cosmetic overlay. Bandai Namco Entertainment shipped it with the rest of the game on 27 August 2026 in Japan and 28 August 2026 worldwide, including Steam.

Create the player before you care about online ranked. Appearance, physique, and signature moves are locked in at the start of the route, and some techniques only appear after you unlock the characters who teach them. If you have not learned stamina, Max clashes, or keeper Breaks yet, finish Practice from Getting Started and skim How to Play. A custom forward still lives under the same Chain System as Tsubasa.

Looks, physique, and signature moves

New Stars opens in Player Edit. Face, hair, and kit details matter later because the in-game shop sells extra hairstyles and cosmetics for in-game currency. Physique is not just fashion. A denser frame suits a defender who wants Super Tackle and Super Block windows. A lighter frame suits a midfielder who will raise chain level with dribbles and Super Passes. A striker’s build wants charged Shoot Moves and Super Shots.

Signature moves are the real decision. You pick from techniques you have already unlocked, so a brand-new save has a thinner list than a save that has already met Brazil Youth on the manga path. That gating is why many players dip into the Story Walkthrough far enough to unlock teachers, then start New Stars. You can still begin immediately; the move list simply widens as bonds and roster unlocks land.

Do not copy Tsubasa’s entire kit on day one. Japan Youth already has a captain who wants the ball. Your job is a role the AI will not duplicate: a chain-pumping midfielder, a Super Block specialist, or a second striker who can take a Super Aerial Shot from a Super Pass. Check the Controls table so Max Dribble, shoot charge, and Super Move are in muscle memory before you spend an evening on hair color.

Bonds and playing beside Tsubasa

As New Stars progresses, the custom player builds bonds with Japan Youth teammates. Those bonds teach techniques that did not appear on the creation screen. The teacher has to exist in your unlock pool. Play the scenes. Skipping every conversation is how you stay stuck on a generic Shoot Move while a teammate is offering something you actually wanted.

On the pitch you are a Japan Youth player, not a one-man campaign. Pass, raise chain, and let Tsubasa or Hyuga take the Super Shot if their technique Breaks this keeper. World Youth opposition is the same headline list as Story — Thailand through Brazil, with Legendary, Advanced, and SIDE/LINK extras — so the Story Walkthrough still helps you know who is next.

Keepers still pick six directions. Chain still transfers on a turnover. Super Moves still need a filled gauge and the dedicated button. New Stars does not relax those rules because the protagonist is original. A custom player with a weaker early move list needs cleaner buildup than a fully kitted Tsubasa.

Team Edit, shop, and Versus

Team Edit can include the custom player. Drop them into a dream squad beside any of the 110-plus playable characters, the 22 national teams, and the roughly five club or school sides. Starting positions, tactics, and Super Move mix are the sandbox. This is also the cleanest way to try the player in a local split-screen or private match without dragging the campaign into the room.

The in-game shop is cosmetic and spends in-game currency. Real money belongs on editions and the Season Pass, which is separate DLC through August 2027 with six characters and uniforms. Compare SKUs on Editions and DLC if you still think the shop is a second Season Pass. It is not.

When you take the custom player into Versus, start with local split-screen or a private match. Online ranked and public versus use a player card rank and the same stamina rules. Launch-week matchmaking has been uneven in some reviews, so keep Practice and Story as backup if a queue stalls. Full mode notes are on Game Modes. The Players hub and Tier List hub help you pick teachers once the move list opens up.

New Stars is the right first campaign if you already want a created Japan Youth star. It is the wrong first campaign if you still dash until stamina dies. Learn the pad, then make the player, then join Tsubasa.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for launch week on PS5, Xbox, Switch, and Steam.

What is New Stars in Captain Tsubasa 2?

It is a full Japan Youth campaign for a custom player who joins Tsubasa. You set looks, physique, and signature moves, then learn extra techniques through teammate bonds. It is not a costume toggle on the manga Story path.

Can my custom player use every Super Move at the start?

No. Some signature moves are gated by unlocked characters and bonds. A little progress on the Story Walkthrough widens the list before you create the player.

Can I add the New Stars player to Team Edit?

Yes. Team Edit can include the custom player in a dream squad. Use that squad in Practice or Versus after you finish a creation you like. See Game Modes.

Does New Stars skip stamina and chain rules?

No. Custom players use the same stamina, Max clashes, Chain System, Super Moves, and keeper Breaks. Read How to Play before you treat the created striker as unstoppable.

Should I buy cosmetics with real money for New Stars?

No. The in-game shop spends in-game currency. The Season Pass is separate real-money DLC. Edition differences are on Editions and DLC.

Is New Stars the only way to play Story?

No. The manga-based World Youth path, Legendary and Advanced routes, SIDE/LINK threads, and Rival Episodes all exist beside it. Start with Getting Started if you have not picked a route yet.
